Inner City Neighborhood Economic Development & Redevelopment

Creating, revitalizing and sustaining social and economic assets that benefit all.

  • Recognize that housing is a critical stabilizing factor for all for neighborhoods, families, and human beings
  • Create and recreate place-based, viable community building and living – for residents and businesses
  • Place significant value in the workforce and neighborhood businesses, creating alignments and connections
  • Be action-based using a collaborative model for implementation, providing for the participation of those affected and interested
  • Be wholistic, when possible, to include - Education, Reinvestment, Job Creation, Healthy Living
  • Redevelop residential and commercial properties where there is a public purpose and social impact value
  • Promote and encourage the involvement of the private sector, with the understanding the private sector can organically improve the       scale and sustainability of efforts and resources
  • Further homeownership opportunities in the inner city and increase the tax base
  • Create and develop innovative rental and homeownership programs for the lower income and market consumers
  • Invite partners in the various economic develop spectrum to join, and join partners to implement projects successfully

2017-2019 Summary Action Plan

ONGOING PROJECTS:

  • Create and launch Inner City Revival Brand and Website by June 2018
  • Complete the “Urbanizing” Vacant Lot Portal by July 2018
  • Complete formation of partnership roundtable by September 2018
  • Complete feasibility of The Bender Hotel by August 2018
  • Plan and develop a mixed-income development of larger scale 60+ units by November 2018
  • Complete the acquisition and reconstruction of Balcones Apartments by February 2019
  • Expand Laredo BiblioTech Digital Library to one additional site by March 2019
  • Complete the reconstruction of 138 lower-income RAD units at Russell Terrace development Completed by June 2019
  • Redevelop 5 residential properties for rental or homeownership by December 2019
