Defining the Inner City

The "Inner City" is the area located in the oldest neighborhoods in central Laredo. It is the area where there is grid street plan, where streets meet at right angles. Generally, the boundaries are Markley St./Taylor St. (North), Lee Ave. (West), Water Street (South) and Arkansas Ave./Ejido Ave. (East). *

Amongst the various founding neighborhoods like the Barrio Azteca Historic District and others west Laredo, the area also includes all the San Agustin Historic District, St. Peter's Historic District, the downtown, and the Heights neighborhoods.

*As defined by the City of Laredo 2017 Comprehensive Plan

Reinvestment in neighborhoods is placing actionable confidence in the strong workforce core in our community, in our heritage and culture, in our longest-yielding wealth –the neighborhoods and people that live in our inner city.”

OUR VISION
Revitalizing the inner city to reconnect a community.

Disinvestment in the Laredo inner city risks narrowing the potential and opportunities of those living in neighborhoods which assets have been long undervalued.

Through the Inner City Revival campaign, the Laredo Housing Authority is creating vehicles to help eliminate the economic inequity by implementing strategies that promote housing and business development and redevelopment, prioritizing on projects with a public purpose and social impact value.

The Inner City Revival initiative forges a connection between the public and private sector.

By identifying the competitive edge of the inner city and encouraging private investment, the objective is that progress will no longer displace those who struggle, but rather generate inclusive economic growth.
